London Bridge
ah attacks on london.big doom following big celebration. life works in funny ways la. Then the mighty George Bush says- "The West would not be cowed by Terrorists."
So now the West are one and united in their cause of fighting against the Terrorists; obviously Al-Q and Gang. Ah, after pushing their way into Iraq and bombing its people for a good cause, did the West together not already defeat the Terrorists? Gave them a taste of their own medcine, no?
For some reason i didnt really fully sympathise with this whole London Bomb Situation. So London Bridge is falling down, but the Africans and Cambodians didnt have any bridge to begin with.
So right, what im trying to say is, i see the footage of a mass of ambulances parked haphazardly on a Pretty London Street; with the occasional person limping with a bandaged head, sad la, but i think, hey, an hour before the bomb blasts they were out and about in their designer shoes carrying their designer bags, smelling of their designer perfumes, drinking designer coffee. Not terribly pitiful anymore. The West, when something happens to them; like a paper cut on a manicured finger, they make so much noise about it; news stories about how they have been so terribly victimised by the "Terrorists" are splashed across headlines of the World.
This woman on the street is interviewed, she had a blood stained left cheek and some grime on her worried face but she was decked in a fashionable peach jacket with a matching metallic chunky necklace and perfectly manicured bright red fingernails.
Sigh, these people only experience the tip of the iceberg. I would think the horrors experienced by the people of the developing world on a (read:)Daily basis would be much far worse, what with civil wars, famine, drought and forced prostitution, female gentila mutilation in africa, bride burning in india, starvation in africa. These "mini" events get the occassional honorory mention when the West are feeling particular sympathetic. Once every 20 years they decide to hold Live Aid/8 concerts to raise some awareness and be caring and generous and forgo that particular piece of designer clothing to sponsor a child through World Vision.
But then again its the West that controls most of the media and what-nots in this world. So maybe Africa should feel lucky/honoured that the West have bestowed part portions of their riches to them. Maybe the West deserves some credit for attempting to help, Nonetheless, their western disasters/worries are minute and terribly insignificant in comparison to the tragedies in the less developed countries.
They just have the power the glamour the prestige (and the cameras) to blow it up and make it seem like a real big disaster they have suffered. Those poor westerners have been made victims, yet again, those evil terrorists! Down with them!
