life's little pleasures

"Without you today's emotions are the skin shed by yesterday's"
-Amelie

I've learnt to enjoy life's little pleasures
a fork in a cake
picking up the crumbs
licking the sugar icing off my fingers

oh but i'd like somebody to love

the sounds of a clicking keyboard
high heels clickclock a wooden floor
fingernails tapping on the edge of the cold hard desk
in nervous anticipation

a kid's face lights up
slurping ice cream
strong rays of the sun melting
creamy vanilla dripping
the warm brown crunchy cone
the child's tight firm grip

oh but i want somebody to love

soft warm woolen socks fresh from the dryer
like velvet softness against your dry clean feet
the crisp feel of paper as you turn the smooth creased page
the musky fresh smell when u read a brand new book
like the new hot sheet from the photocopier machine

oh but i need somebody to love

click the sound of the camera
the flash flashes
smile the faces of people
buzz the vibration of a nokia during lecture
annoyance the mood of teacher
chatter the result of the interruption

but will i love him back

goodbye the sun sets
swallows return to their nests
laughter fades in the distant air
best friends part awaiting tomorrow
lovers hand in hand sleeping tight
warm embrace a mother and child
the chapter closes
the book shut
the moon shines brightly in the night sky
