2. After giving free access all this while, why is STI selling subscriptions now?
STI, the online edition of The Straits Times (ST), has been carrying the content of ST and more for free since 1995. The time has come to market it as a product in its own right.
wah that is officially the crapiest most nosensical anwer ever. what the hell is meant by 'the time has come' and 'product in its own right'???! downright cheesy.
dunno how to say dont say.
what they mean to say is: sorry but we have decided we want to extort the money of unsuspecting singaporeans under the guise of improving our quality of services we know singaporeans cannot do without us and hence want to make ourselves more unreachable and elite, to serve only the higher-class got money people. so the rest of you bug off. also, we think we are growing bigger and better as an online newspaper company, therefore soliciting payment from our online subscribers will help distance us from the low-class online paper we once used to be.
goodbye, suckers.
yours sincerely,
the straits times government puppet and monopoly

ya.. its soooo dumb of them.
hai, wats up with them anyway.
cant stand it.
(ive been protesting viamy msn nick)
We did see that coming didn't we? Nothing is free in this country. Except for that economic restructing shares thing.
ST is trying to earn out of huge corporations that need to keep up with info for strategic planning and stuff. To them money-grabbing shitheads, it doesn't matter that they are sacrificing us non-commercial readers and students who just want to increase our knowledge.
We're stuck with ST! We need more new publishers to give SPH some competition. Maybe they'll treat us nicer then.
